National Character

Character dancing introduces students to different traditional dance styles from around the world, giving them the experience of dance’s rich history.  All traditional Classical Ballets such as Swan Lake, Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty and Coppélia show Character Dance at its best. This art form improves style and artistry through movement and enhances performance skills.

The National Character System of Training

This System of Training introduces teachers and students to the wondrous and amazing culture and history of other countries through dance and music.  The programme includes barre, centre, set enchainements (including gender specific) and dances of many nationalities and incorporates partner and pattern work.

It progresses systematically through each level and includes building blocks and strategies to correct technique and assist in developing strength, knowledge, musicality and artistry.

The System of Training includes:

  • extensive teaching notes to introduce teachers and students to authentic steps from various countries with emphasis on technical awareness and placement.

  • includes step variations for teacher’s own choreographic purposes.

The programme is designed to technically develop students to reach their full potential whether on a recreational, professional or teaching level.

Every day brings a chance to draw a breath, kick off your shoes and dance!
