As a young girl Jennifer studied classical ballet, tap, jazz, Irish and Highland dancing. During the early 1960’s she joined the Young Australian Ballet Company under the direction of Kiril Vassilkousky doing television and stage production work. From 1963 – 1965 Jennifer was a member of the Georgia Brown Dancers performing in stage productions.
Following on from her professional career Jennifer taught at her own studio in Sydney. Jennifer was appointed a trainee Examiner for SATD in 1965 and examined for them until 1990. In 1991 Jennifer became a founding Director of ATOD and was instrumental in initiating the videoing of syllabus work. From 1991 – 1993 Jennifer was the honorary secretary for ATOD and taught at her own school in Lithgow and at the State High School. Jennifer was thrilled to examine in Hong Kong in 1993.
Jennifer was appointed President of ATOD in 1993 and served until 1996. She was instrumental in helping to develop the Hong Kong branch of ATOD and conducted jazz seminars there in 1994, 95 and 96. She was also a consultant and teacher in Hong Kong for six months during this period. Since that time Jennifer has been awarded Life Membership of ATOD. She retired from teaching and examining in 2002 and is now our Stock Controller, Recorder of Examination Results and issues Teaching Diplomas.
Jennifer was the 2008 recipient of the Avril Binzer Award, which was presented in Sydney NSW on the 26th July, 2008 at the ATOD Australasian Scholarships. This award was enjoyed and celebrated by Jennifer’s family and many colleagues in attendance – a fine achievement.
