Come Together Dance Convention provides dance teachers, studio owners and students with opportunities and tools to grow and learn from national and international leaders and guest speakers in dance teacher education. Delegates will attend dynamic, informative, personal and practical education sessions in a nurturing and positive environment.

With the theme “Educate, Inspire, Motivate”, this inspiring, informative and FUN dance event will leave every participant feeling passionate, confident and inspired to take their dance to greater heights!

Date: 14th – 15th July 2018

Venue: We are returning to the fabulous Mantra on View, 22 View Avenue, Surfers Paradise, Gold Coast. This two day convention is strategically placed on the weekend of 14-15th July 2018, when all states of Australia are on school holidays.

Time: Registrations commencing 7:00 am both days. Workshops commence at 8.00 am.

Studio 7 Dancewear’s Welcome Fashion Show: This year, those who have purchased a two day Convention pass are automatically invited to the Studio 7 Dancewear’s Welcome Fashion Show. This event includes include networking opportunities, a buffet dinner, and a night of light hearted fun, laughs and DANCING!

Local and national dance wear and costume companies will showcase their latest designs and apparel!  Doors open at 6:00 pm for a 7:00 pm start.

The Benefits for Teachers and Studio Owners / Managers: Delegates will attend seminar presentations and workshops with national and international dance industry professionals, marketing and studio enrolment strategists, entrepreneurs, mentors and masters in dance teacher education.

Kate Meade is passionate about dance and the Australian dance industry and will once again join Come Together Dance Convention as the MC!

She is the Founder and Director of the Victorian Dance Festival, breakfast host of the Networked programme, the Morning Rush with ACE Radio Network, mother and wife.

Kate has worked as project manager for The Australian Teachers of Dancing, the Victorian Regional Development Officer for AusDance Victoria and has owned her own dance studio – Kate’s Dance House, in South West Victoria for eight years.  She teaches dance with the All Abilities Dance Group Let’s Dance which she founded over 10 years ago. Let’s Dance provides an opportunity for people with disabilities the opportunities to learn and perform.

Kate has a Masters in Media and Communications and certificates in project management, strategic management and marketing.


KATRINA McCARTER – Keynote Presenter

A marketing strategist highly regarded for her creative growth initiatives, Katrina McCarter works with small and large businesses to increase sales and profits to Australia’s most powerful consumer – the Mum.

PAUL MALEK – Guest Presenter and Dance Instructor

Artistic Director and Founder, Transit Dance, Entrepreneur, Choreographer, Inspirational Speaker, Motivator

Paul Malek’s passion lies in creation, youth dance, multimedia and the development of opportunities for Australia and world dance. As the Artistic Director and Founder of Transit Dance in Melbourne, this prolific entrepreneur, is the mastermind behind such dance businesses as Underground, Immersed Melbourne Dance Industry Gala, Dance Chat, Project Y, Boom Media, Collaboration The Project and Project Base.

Paul’s choreographic credits include, So You Think You Can Dance Australia, (SEO 3 and 4), Dancing with the Stars, Yours Truly, Hair the Musical, and a plethora of highly acclaimed theatrical dance productions. As Artistic Director of Transit Dance Company he has received outstanding reviews for his last two dance works, BOYZ (Midsumma Festival 2016) and Every Inch of Me (2015).

Actively engaged in the Australian dance community, Malek was the artistic director of The Victorian Dance Festival from 2012 – 2017, and an active board member of Australian Teachers of Dancing International. An inspirational speaker and motivator, he is also a much loved MC, hosting not only the Victorian Dance Festival, but the Come Together Dance Convention, Underground, Dance Chat Live, and Immersed Dance Industry Night. He also hosts empowering workshops at various companies, dance schools, high schools and primary schools across Australia.




Coach, Mentor, Studio Strategist, Bachelor of Music (Music Education)

Chantelle Bruinsma is on a mission to assist studio owners to step into the next level of success and to experience more passion, more profits and more purpose than ever before. As the Founder and CEO of Studio Expansion, she will explain the steps behind filling a studio to capacity. Chantelle’s combination of hands on coaching, inspiring case studies, creative collaboration and innovative strategies and her welcoming sense of community ensure that her workshops are unlike any other.

Chantelle founded a successful performing arts studio, which over four years spread to six venues across Sydney. With rapid growth, a team of 35 teachers and over 1000 students, it was not long before she was approached to share her strategies with other studio owners as a coach and mentor. After word of Chantelle’s results spread and her increased training as a NLP Master Practitioner, she quickly reached capacity with her Studio Expansion private clients.  The Studio Expansion community is a sanctuary for studio owners, giving them not only the practical resources and strategies to succeed, but also the supportive network that enables them to thrive.

Turning Studio Expansion into an online community in 2013 was her turning point and she has assisted studios from every corner of the globe, from North America to the United Kingdom, Portugal to Malaysia. Her online programmes assist studio owners to attract more students, boost retention, build loyal teams and systemise their studios.

MARK PACE – Guest Presenter and Dance Instructor

Teaching Fellow, Professional Dancer, Dance Academic

Mark Pace has over 30 years of dancing, teaching and guesting experience in various international ballet companies, school settings and has spoken at various conferences.

He is a professional dancer and dance academic, currently teaching with the University of Edinburgh as a Teaching Fellow on the programme MSc in Dance Science and Education. He is currently in his first year as a PhD student with the University of Edinburgh and holds a Masters in Dance Science and Education with Distinction (UoE), a BA (Hons) in Dance Education (University of Surrey), the State Dance Diploma (DE) and Certificate of Aptitude (CA) from France and a Diploma for Dance Teaching and Management (ATOD).

Originally from Australia, Mark began as a student with Julie Ryan, later studying under Gailene Stock and Gary Norman. At the age of 16 he was accepted in to the Australian Ballet School where after only one year joined the Australian Ballet under the direction of Maina Gielgud where he reached the rank of soloist by the age of 21. Later awarded a grant to study at The Paris Opera School, Mark performed internationally with the Australian Ballet (Melbourne) later joining Béjart Ballet Lausanne, Bayerisches Staatsballett, and finishing his career with the Ballet de l’Opéra national du Rhin.

Other dance projects include international guesting, coaching, creating and assisting choreographers with ballet companies such as the Paris Opera, Shanghai Ballet, Central Ballet of China, National Ballet of Vietnam, among others.

As a pedagogue, Mark’s work includes many educational roles, teaching dance in vocational and non-vocational school settings and higher education. He has also taught primary and secondary schools students in France and Australia creative movement and choreography by developing a practice that employs links to the industry and brings importance of theory in to practice.

Mark is currently one of the leading advisers revising the classical ballet syllabus for the Australian Teachers of Dancing (ATOD) and has sat on various juries for dance including Diplome d’Etat and EAT in France. He has also been a member of various funding commissions including the Commission Interregional for Dance and the Ballet de l’Opéra National du Rhin.

LISA HOWELL – Workshop Presenter

Physiotherapist, Ballet Specialist, International Speaker, Trainer 

Lisa Howell is the owner and creator of Perfect Form Physiotherapy. She started the practice in 2005 with the mission to create the highest quality physical therapy care in a nurturing environment. Lisa’s focus is on education to prevent injury and maximise performance rather than waiting for injury to occur.  In addition, she creates resources and presents workshops focused on empowering dancers to heal themselves.

Lisa has a strong personal history in many forms of dance and is well respected both nationally and internationally for her work with young dancers, professional dancers and dance teachers. At the 2007 IADMS conference her poster on pre-pointe assessment was joint-winner of the award for the poster making “The Greatest Contribution to Dance Medicine” and she continues to develop programmes to educate and inspire young dancers to become the best that they can possible be.

Lisa is also a qualified instructor in The Pilates Method and has had extensive personal involvement in various forms of Dance and Yoga. Throughout her professional studies and career, she has continued her involvement with dance and uses her personal experience as a constant learning tool to advance her knowledge.

website www.theballetblog.com  in 2008. This site is an amazing resource for any dancer, and is dedicated to helping dancers all over the world fulfil their potential by enhancing their technique and preventing injury!

The site has all kinds of free information including videos, articles and quick tips to help dancers perform at their peak potential. It also provides access to all of the dance education resources developed by Lisa, including: The Perfect Pointe Book, Front Splits Fast and The Teacher Manual.

Today, Lisa runs workshops and speaks at conventions globally and has published over 15 programmes and 20 different workshops to accelerate performance and prevent injury. She  runs a blog that inspired 300,000 people last year, and has been featured on the 7:30 programme broadcast by the ABC to educate on the risks of overstretching. More than 550 teachers from 22 different countries have completed her Level 1 teacher training, and she constantly strives to provide the information and resources to help all dancers achieve their dreams.



DANIELLE LENNON – Guest Presenter

CEO of Lennon Circus and Entertainment Pty Ltd, Dance Teacher

Danielle Lennon’s session, The Psychology behind Understanding Teenagers is designed for teachers wishing to better mentor and guide their intermediate and senior students through their dance education.

Danielle is the CEO of Lennon Circus and Entertainment Pty Ltd, which runs The Studio of Performing Arts – Springfield in Queensland. She is also a mum of four and a studio mum of 300!

With over 25 years dance teaching experience and 10 years of working in Education Queensland and Anglican Schools, Danielle has a true passion for teaching and still teaches three – four nights each week. Her company is the first dance school in Australia to be approved through the Department of Education as a Vacation Care Provider.



JESSICA COVE – Dance Instructor

 Counsellor, Holistic Health Coach, Ballet

 Jessica began her dance training at age 7. After being awarded her Solo Seal in 1998, she was offered places at the Australian and Royal Ballet Schools and granted a scholarship to the Vienna Opera Ballet School, where she trained under Nadia Tikhonova.

During her time in Europe, Jessica competed in a number of competitions, taking the gold medal at the Biarritz International Ballet Competition and Silver at the Aktzent International Ballet Competition (Vienna). Jessica also appeared as a finalist at the Adeline Genée Awards (London) and semi-finalist at the Luxembourg International Ballet Competition and was offered a position with Jeune Ballet de France.

Jessica’s classical performance repertoire includes Diana et Acteon (Diana), Giselle (Giselle and Peasant Pas de Deux), La Bayadere (Gamzatti, Nikiya, 3rd Shade), Le Corsaire  (Odalisque Pas de Trios), Nutcracker (Sugar Plum Fairy), Paquita (3rd Soloist), Sleeping Beauty (Aurora, Lilac Fairy, Crystal Fountain Fairy), Swan Lake (Odette), Suite en Blanc (La Cigarette).

After graduating from the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) with an Associate Degree in Dance in 2006, Jessica began guest teaching in the Vaganova method at a selection of Australian dance schools and institutions, including QUT and Sydney Dance Company.

In recent years Jessica has undertaken further study to become a Counsellor and Holistic Health Coach, specialising in supporting young dancers and their families in the areas of mindset, nutrition and positive self-esteem.



TIA JORDAN – Audition Guru

JAMES BARRY – Dance Instructor

Artistic Director, Choreographer, Hip Hop, Phly Crew

James Barry, or JB, is known globally for his online popping tutorials and his choreography for National and International artists. James has played a massive role in the success of popular hip-hop/Comedy group Phly Crew as the Artistic Director.

Phly Crew have competed on all levels, even representing Australia at Hip-Hop International in 2011, but most recently Phly Crew were seen on the Grand Final of the popular TV show Australia’s Got Talent! On the note of reality TV, JB made it into the top 30 of So You Think You Can Dance in 2014.

In 2016 JB was asked to be a part of the International acclaimed dance company Richboyz. He has taught all around the world from France to Germany to the USA. He has also trained internationally, attending the world’s most prestigious dance camp, Urban Dance Camp, in Germany in 2014 and 2015.  JB is continually growing and training to pass on knowledge to his students.




JACK CHAMBERS – Dance Instructor

Artistic Director – RAW Company, Teacher, Performer

Jack Chambers was the first So You Think You Can Dancewinner in Australia in 2008. He started dance lessons at the tender age of three in Jazz, Tap, Contemporary, Ballet and Hip Hop, and alongside his dance training learnt to sing and act. By the age of ten he was cast in his first musical, Singing in the Rain.

 Since then his theatre credits have included The Sound of Music, Project X– performed at Singapore Arts Festival and Holland Dance Festival (Raw Company), Spring Gala 2010 –hosted by Liza Minnelli (The Kennedy Center, Washington DC) and Hairspray the Musical– Australia (Dainty Consolidated Group), where he was nominated for best supporting role as Link Larkin at the Sydney Critics’ Awards. Jason Gilkison’s Burn the Floorwas Jack’s next production and took him to West End in London and throughout Japan. Jack has worked as a choreographer and teacher internationally, including at the prestigious Joffrey Ballet School and the Peridance Capezio Centre in New York City.

Jack most recently choreographed Untapped,a RAW Company production, which has had two successful seasons Off Broadway at The New Victory Theatre in New York City, and won Best Dance Show at the Adelaide Fringe Festival in 2016.

HIs latest adventure was playing Cosmo Brown in Singing in the Rain(Dainty Group/Michael Cassel/Lunchbox Productions/David Atkins Enterprises) earning him a Helpmann nomination for Best Supporting Role, winning a Green Room Award in the same category and winning an Australian Dance Award.

As Artistic Director of RAW Company, Jack has been helping shape our young performers of today in becoming the best that they can be.



MEGA JAM – Dance Instructors

Hip Hop, Commercial Street Dancing, You Tube Sensations

Jasmine Meakin and Luis Pinto (Mega Jam) from Brisbane have been performing, choreographing and teaching workshops all over the world thanks to the success of their YouTube channel and their 75,000 followers on Instagram and 500,000 on Facebook.

With Jasmine’s dance choreography videos racking up 450 million video views and 1.4 million subscribers globally, they have done three European tours and filmed videos for their channel all over the world. With classes in Hip Hop dance and other styles of commercial street dancing, students will learn in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.




KAT JOHNSON – Dance Instructor

Kat Johnson is an award-winning dancer, TV Host and Creative Director for the international brand, TAPfit.

TAPfit has been featured on major live television shows throughout the US and Australia including “Good Day LA”, “Hollywood Today Live”, Florida’s “Daytime”, “The Daily Meal” and “The Morning Show”. TAPfit has also been featured in publications such as Elle Magazine, Women’s Health and Lorna Jane. TAPfit are now expanding into UK focusing on their Instructor Training Courses which have already taken the UK by storm with our latest event, sold out with over 300 Instructors attending in Preston, England.

JW MURRAY – Dance Instructor

Teacher, Choreographer, Tap, Hip Hop, Live Entertainer, Founder – Sydney Tap Dance Festival

JW Murray is passionate about the growth of Tap Dance in general and has had the privilege of learning from some of the industry’s BEST teachers and choreographers. After teaching, choreographing and coaching over 50 studios specialising in Tap and Hip Hop and hosting workshops across Australia, JW has progressed his live entertainment company, Clique Entertainment.

Born in Sydney, JW grew up learning many styles of dance which has led him to some great experiences and opportunities performing at numerous corporate functions and club shows across New South Wales. When he isn’t in the studio, he works on his many other companies such as Performance Platforms– a stage and prop company, and Rhythm Division, a select young men’s Tap crew.

JW loves to travel and connect with people around the world and has recently travelled to Los Angeles where he had the opportunity to teach at Edge Performing Arts Centre. He is set to travel to Brazil in the near future to teach and share his passion for performing arts.

JW is also the Director/ Owner of Sydney Tap Dance Festival, which he founded in 2016 with the inaugural festival held in 2017. The annual festival consists of a Tap Dance competition, routine classes, open classes, panel discussions, jams, a concert and more.




Dance Teacher, Examiner, Competitor, Cheer Coach, Rhythm Works Integrative Dance Instructor, Acrobatic Arts

Jessica started dancing at the age of three and danced throughout her childhood under the training of Shelley Tookey at Shelley’s Dance Company in Edmonton, Canada. She trained in ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical, contemporary, musical theatre and highland and competed all over North America. Jessica examined in RAD ballet, Brian Foley Jazz and Al Gilbert Tap exams as well as the Canadian Highland Dance Association exams and Arthur Murray International exams for her Ballroom and Latin dance training.

She was selected as part of the team who represented Canada at the Suzutan Cup in Japan for drill and dance team events and was a dance team member on the Edmonton Eskimos Cheer Team. Her cheer coaching was under the trainings of Dianne Greenough which then led her to coaching a top performing high school Pom/Dance team as well as the Junior Edmonton Eskimo Dance Programme.

Teaching is Jessica’s passion and she started when she was in her early teens, continuing to teach in many styles of dance in both Canada and Australia. She managed and taught at the Edmonton Arthur Murray dance studio as well as the Sydney location for over 14 years and was the assistant director of the Australasian division of Arthur Murray International, running dance competitions and events. 

Jessica now runs and manages her own dance studio, Terpsichore Dance Company, on Sydney’s North Shore. She has obtained a Certificate IV in Dance Teaching and Management, a Diploma of Management, is a certified Rhythm Works Integrative Dance Instructor, a certified Acrobatic Arts instructor, a Level 1 certified Progressing Ballet Technique instructor, a certified Glenn Wood Tap teacher and a member of the Australian Teachers of Dancing (ATOD). Her studio was one of the first in Australia to be certified by Youth Protection Advocates in Dance (YPAD) and she is a certified YPAD instructor herself. She is always keen to expand her dance and Acro knowledge as much as possible and strives to always be up to date with current teachings in the industry. She is extremely proud to be a part of the Acrobatic Arts team and excited to be teaching for Acrobatic Arts and looking forward to passing on her knowledge to others.  



JESSICA OPACIC – Guest Presenter

Dance Director, Teacher, Choreographer, Dance Pilates, Fitness and Personal Trainer

After more than five years as the Dance Director of a large Melbourne dance school Jessica Opacic (nee Daniel) returned to New Zealand and is now the sales and marketing manager for Movitae, a New Zealand based dance technology company. She also teaches RAD ballet, and as a dance coach, she is choreographing competition solos. 

Jess began her dance training in Auckland where she grew up. She furthered her dance studies in Melbourne and gained a Diploma of Dance Performance. Her performance credits are varied and include a season with Black Grace Dance Company in their 2007 tour of ‘Amata.

As a teacher, Jess has travelled through all states of Australia, and as a choreographer, she has toured Europe and America with the Australian Girls’ Choir, she has also led teacher professional development courses with The Australian School of Performing Arts. Jess also holds a Certificate 4 in fitness and personal training and is studying to become a Dance Pilates instructor. In her spare time, she loves to watch live ballet and musical theatre productions, participate in dance classes, shop and play with her new kitten Daphne.
